Werben Castle was first mentioned in documents in 1005. The town was granted town rights in 1151. With just under 700 inhabitants in the core area, Werben is the smallest Hanseatic town in the world.

A sensation was discovered during the restoration of the high altar. A painting of the Last Supper, which had been lost for 150 years, was rediscovered in the rectory. After the restoration, the painting will be open to the public again in September 2023. What is special about it is that the disciples take the Last Supper lying down, according to Roman custom.

At the cemetery there is drinking water behind the entrance on the right.

The Salt Church was originally the chapel of the Saint Spiritus Hospital. During the Reformation, the hospitals were closed and the chapel was converted into a salt storage facility - hence the name "Salt Church". At the end of the 1990s, the Salt Church was restored and is now a popular venue for cultural events.

There were a total of 5 Seehausen city gates. The Beustertor is the last remaining city gate. The Beustertor has a special fortress-like character and is definitely one of the highlights of the Hanseatic city of Seehausen.

I was surprised to find such an impressive church in such a small place: an impressive Romanesque portal, the two 65-meter-high towers, a baroque pulpit and a carved wood altar from the Middle Ages were my personal highlights. The opening times are from May 15th to October 15th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Monday - Saturday). Climbing the tower is highly recommended: you have a great panoramic view. The entrance fee for the tower is 1€. The former tower keeper's apartment has been recreated in the towers, so you get a good insight into the life of the tower keeper.
