Tangermünde is a true gem on the Elbe Cycle Path: a beautiful old town, lots of brick Gothic architecture, and views of the Elbe. The route is flat, well-maintained, and ideal for relaxed cycling right along the river. Perfect for a break with a café stop and a stroll through the historic streets. 🚴♂️

Albrecht the Bear, Margrave of Brandenburg, founded this market around 1160/65. He soon granted his city of Stendal the famous Magdeburg Law, that is, city rights, freedom from tolls, the right to mint coins, and other privileges. A favorable location and diverse trade connections to cities on the North and Baltic Seas quickly made Stendal the most prestigious and largest city in the Margraviate of Brandenburg.
