The Fontana Moneta refuge has bedrooms, toilets and hot water. It is a perfect place to refresh and stay overnight. It is located near the Sintria stream and not far from the church of Sant'Andrea. The entire complex was carefully restored by the UOEI (Unione Operaia Escursionisti Italiani) section of Faenza, which preserved its original layout and architecture. If the original name, "Fontana Moneta", perhaps derives from the tax that the local lords made the poor people pay so that they could use the water fountain under the church, today the refuge is dedicated to Primo Peroni, one of the founders of the Group Speleologist from Faenza and pioneer of hiking in the Romagna Apennines, who passed away in 1978.

Between the localities of Il Poggio and Croce San Daniele, along a pleasant dirt road in the valley of the Sintria stream, the church of San Michele in the town of Fornazzano is an excellent place to enjoy a break in the shade.

... centuries-old building complex with adjoining church near the Sintria stream ... The refuge (completely restored and furnished) is served by water, electricity, gas and has 31 beds distributed in 5 rooms as well as 2 dining rooms with kitchen and 5 toilets with shower and hot water. ... You can access the use of the self-managed refuge: - by contacting the "attendance management" staff of the "Fontana Moneta" refuge - by booking online on the website » parks.it ... According to an undocumented tradition, the name Fontana Moneta (which derives from a fountain still existing below the church, near the waters of the Sintria stream) could be traced back to a tribute that "the lords of the castle above demanded from the poor people who brought to draw water". But this is probably a fantasy. Probably "money" was intended as an adjective for "equipped", that is, "closed or defended or not disposable". ... The entire building complex (including the church dedicated to S. Andrea), located at 634 m. above sea level in the heart of the Romagna Apennines, it has been carefully restored by the U.O.E.I. section of Faenza, rigorously preserving its original layout and architecture.
