From 1863 to 1922, the so-called powder mill, a factory for the production of black powder, operated in the Moosalb valley. The explosive and propellant, which consists of a mixture of potassium nitrate (saltpeter), sulphur and charcoal, was used in the region primarily for the construction of the railway and for blasting in the sandstone quarries.
