The refuge is located in front of the Forni Glacier and is named after Cesare Branca, a lawyer and mountaineer from Milan. It was built between 1932 and 1934 by the Milan section of the CAI following a donation by Giuseppina Branca, sister of the deceased mountaineer. The project is by the engineer Cesare De Micheli.

The Cesare Branca Refuge is located in the heart of the Ortles-Cevedale group in a strategic position that makes it ideal for those who want to follow the itineraries in the surrounding area. It is managed by the CAI of Milan and offers refreshments and overnight stays.

I ate at the refuge and was able to recharge there. Funnily enough, I asked a hiker for directions, who sent me toward Dimaro via the Passo de Contrabandierie, saying, "Quite steep but possible." I cursed the guy at least 1,000 times on the climb. 27 kg bike, 15 kg bag. It wasn't fun, more like a near-death experience. The only way to get there was with the bike lying on the bag. Dangerous: 6/10 Was it a thrill? Damn it, and I'll take the wrong path again.

The Rifugio Ghiacciaio dei Forni (2,178 m) is an ideal starting point for hikes and climbs to the surrounding peaks, such as Mount Cevedale and Gran Zebrù. The refuge offers comfortable rooms and delicious traditional Valtellina cuisine. It houses numerous relics from the First World War.

The Stavel "Francesco Denza" refuge is located just below the north face of the Presanella peak. This, with its 3,558 meters of altitude, is the highest mountain in Trentino. The refuge presents many aspects of historical interest relating to the First World War and has a large dining room and numerous beds. Next to the refuge there is also a welcoming bivouac.

Also known simply as the Forni refuge, this high mountain hut is located in the Forni valley, in the municipality of Valfurva. It is located in the heart of the Lombardy Stelvio National Park at 2,178 meters above sea level. Since the mid-nineteenth century, as can be read in some German-language prints, it was possible to stay at an "innkeeper's house at the Forni glacier", most likely an ancestor of the current refuge.

We stayed here overnight on our Alpine Cross, it was fantastic, the peace and seclusion. In the valley you feel like you have been transported to another time. The hut owner Allesandro is super nice and takes great care of his guests. It was an unforgettable experience.
