Beautiful ring and beautiful refuge with excellent food

Great view over one of the quietest and most secluded areas of South Tyrol.

From this panoramic path that crosses the scree just above the forest you can enjoy fantastic views of the overhanging peaks of the Fanes Piccola alp and the valley.

The first written mention of a church in Mittewald dates back to 1345, and it was re-consecrated in 1473. The current church was built between 1831 and 1833 under the direction of the Pfitsch curate Jakob Prantl; the late Gothic spire was integrated into the new building. The ceiling paintings by Josef Renzler from 1832 deserve special attention: they show the veneration of the altar sacrament by the four continents and the death of Saint Martin. The four spandrels depict scenes from the life of the church's patron saint. The altar paintings - the death of Saint Martin, the adoration of the kings and Saint Sebastian - were also created by Josef Renzler.

It stands in the middle of the village center and is dedicated to Saint Genesius of Rome. It was built between 1868 and 1874 according to plans by the architect Josef von Stadl. It replaced the old parish church of St. Genesius, the ruins of which are located slightly higher up above the village.

Very nice hut with an impressive panorama. When visibility is good you can see, among other things, the Marmolada Glacier. And if you're ever there, you should definitely try the Kaiserschmarrn, which is rarely found to be so good! The staff is nice and the toilets are very clean.
