A unique route to enjoy, a real cycling pleasure.

The section leads from Kaltern down to the Adige River near Bolzano. The ride descends through vineyards, deciduous forest, and two tunnels, winding along the slopes. This provides remarkable views, such as those of Simundskrona. The route partly follows secondary roads, where tractor traffic is permitted, so be careful. Purely enjoyable cycling on what is partly a former railway line.

Today all that remains of Castelfeder is a few suggestive ruins. In the 13th century, however, it had been an important castle built by the lords of Enna. It stood on a hill between the current municipalities of Ora, Egna and Montagna. All around the castle ruins there is a larger area where there are remains of other buildings dating back to various eras. Everything is immersed in the so-called Castelfeder biotope, a protected natural area covering 108 hectares.

The Castelfeder hill is an ancient cultural landscape with traces of settlements from the Stone and Bronze Ages. The remains of a castle complex, the legendary fertility slide, bowl stones and the walls of the Barbara Chapel bear witness to a mystical past. Wurmsee, Langsee, Schwarzsee, Frauensee are the names of the moors that have formed in hollows sealed by the clay of the Ice Age glacier over the past 12,000 years. In addition to dragonflies, amphibians and water snails, there are also leeches, popularly known as "worms". Source: information board on site

Überetsch cycle path: Bozen - Eppan – Kaltern The cycle route connects the city of Bolzano with the wine-growing region between Eppan and Kaltern and with Lake Kaltern From Bolzano the route leads along the Eisack south to the “Meran - Eppan” junction. Here the path follows the Etsch for a few km to the north, then it goes to Eppan/Kaltern over a half-timbered bridge. Here, under Sigmundskron Castle, the path begins to climb slightly. The Überetscher Railway used to run at this point. The cycle path winds up through the wine country between Girlan and Frangart, passes through a few tunnels and finally, after an underpass, reaches St. Michael. From the former St. Michael Eppan train station, we continue south, the path runs parallel to the street until we reach the “Kreuzweg” settlement.
