A unique route to enjoy, a real cycling pleasure.

The section leads from Kaltern down to the Adige River near Bolzano. The ride descends through vineyards, deciduous forest, and two tunnels, winding along the slopes. This provides remarkable views, such as those of Simundskrona. The route partly follows secondary roads, where tractor traffic is permitted, so be careful. Purely enjoyable cycling on what is partly a former railway line.

Today all that remains of Castelfeder is a few suggestive ruins. In the 13th century, however, it had been an important castle built by the lords of Enna. It stood on a hill between the current municipalities of Ora, Egna and Montagna. All around the castle ruins there is a larger area where there are remains of other buildings dating back to various eras. Everything is immersed in the so-called Castelfeder biotope, a protected natural area covering 108 hectares.

The late Gothic building ensemble of Englar Castle with the high facade, the steep Gothic hipped roof and the red and white shutters that are mandatory for South Tyrol is very impressive. It is located above the town of St. Michael / Eppan. Rainer Maria Rilke spent a few days on Englar at the beginning of the 20th century.
