Porta San Lorenzo, also known as Porta Garibaldi, is the smallest of the four gates to the upper town of Bergamo, built by the Venetian Republic between 1562 and 1563. It takes its name from the church of San Lorenzo, which was demolished for the construction of the city walls and was closed from 1605 to 1627 because it was deemed difficult to defend. On June 8, 1859, Giuseppe Garibaldi entered the city through this gate, an event commemorated by a plaque on its façade.

I've done it twice in the same lap, first from Desso, then after climbing Monte Pora. They're completely different. From Desso, it's long and always in double digits, with significant peaks, so take it with a pinch of salt; the other is rideable. Seeing is believing. 🚴‍♀️

A very pleasant climb from Val di Scalve to Borno. Beautiful and not particularly challenging. 😊

A small hamlet just after Valzurio. Parking is available immediately afterward for the start of the hiking trails.

After Valzurio, the road continues at a brisk double-digit rate for only about 1 km until reaching the hamlet of Spinelli. If you're looking to squeeze out the last shot, this is the place to go.
