This church has been entrusted to the local community not by one of the (almost countless) saints, but by "Santa Croce" (the Holy Cross). Perhaps a brief stop here is the perfect opportunity for hikers and walkers to offer a short meditation and a prayer to God. I would therefore like to invite you to prayerfully contemplate God's infinite love for us, revealed in Christ nailed to the wood of the cross. Perhaps a saying by the Spanish founder of the religious order, Ignatius of Loyola (1491-1556), might be helpful: "It is precisely where human hopes fall lowest that trust in God rises highest. For where all human help gives way, there divine help takes its place."

Great views of Lake Lugano

Riva San Vitale provides a nice small stop to enjoy the view of the Lago di Lugano and the surrounding mountains. It is located on the Swiss National Cycling route which is has a lot of cycling traffic on it during the summer months.

Ancient Romanesque church. The population of Mendrisio is very attached to this monument. In November the traditional Fiera di San Martino is held around the meadows of the Church. Very popular fair.

I recommend the complete tour of Lake Lugano by bike, leaving the car in one of the towns overlooking Ceresio you can complete the tour in between 4 and 8 hours. Continuing to cross the various borders between Italy and Switzerland several times, the tour offers ever-changing and breathtaking scenery

The statue with cyclist and child in the photo is really beautiful, and blends perfectly with the ancient history of the village.
