A beautiful and picturesque castle

Anyone cycling through Bad Muskau and wondering whether landscape can be art should simply dismount. Because Muskau Park isn't a green space; it's a poem in trees, paths, and sightlines. Designed by the eccentric Prince Pückler, who wanted to impress with gardens more than with wars, it is now rightfully a UNESCO World Heritage Site. And you notice this with every pedal stroke. One-third of the park lies in Germany, two-thirds in Poland – a European masterpiece of garden design that knows no boundaries except those of good taste. There are no "signs with arrows" here, but rather sightlines that guide you. You cycle past ancient oaks, over gentle bridges, through light avenues. And then, suddenly, it appears: the New Palace. So red, so magnificent, so playfully baroque that you'd think a piece of cotton candy had become a listed building. Behind the palace, the building is reflected in the water like an embarrassed self-portrait, framed by flowers, bushes, and the stories of those who once strolled here – and now picnic. Those seeking open spaces will find it. Those seeking peace and quiet will too. And those who simply want to cycle have rarely had a more beautiful ride. The Prince Pückler Park is not a place you "visit" – you encounter it. And sometimes, when the light is right and the palace glows, you also encounter yourself a little bit anew.

The German-Polish border on the Neisse runs quietly and calmly through the green landscape. On one side of the river stands the red and white striped border post, on the other the black, red and gold one. Both markers are silent witnesses to the border line that runs right through the spacious Muskau Park. The Neisse flows gently between the two countries, and as you walk along the river you feel little of the political significance of this border region. Nature is in charge here - forests, meadows and the calming flow of the water dominate the picture. The border crossing is seamlessly integrated into the landscape, and you often don't notice that you are crossing a border here. For hikers and cyclists, this is a place of peace and quiet where you can enjoy the beauty of the surroundings while the history and significance of this border region remains in the background.

Very well developed cycle paths

The Prince Pückler Park in Bad Muskau, based on the English model, extends over an area of over 830 hectares on both sides of the Neisse. What appears to be naturally occurring and grown is planned down to the last detail - a garden work of art by Hermann Prince Pückler-Muskau. The nobleman designed the landscape park between 1815 and 1845. In 2004, the complex was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The Fuchsia Bridge in the castle park was built in 1826 and renovated in 2020.
