Paride Scuffi

10月 23, 2025, David Mural by Kobra at Cava Cima di Gioia

A huge plaque that marks the death of the Apuan Alps due to criminal marble mining, and on which they didn't even have the good sense to include the dates of birth and death. 200,000,000 years of the Apuan Alps' geological formation pulverized into marble destined for the chemical industry. After this excursion, when you brush your teeth before bed tonight, you might find Apuan marble in your toothpaste. Visit this place because you need to see the pollution and devastation with your own eyes, and you need to know what it means to destroy mountains. And mountains don't grow back: what's taken away is gone forever. And if during your visit you think you see "beauty" around you in this place of devastation and pollution, perhaps you haven't yet developed the consciousness to truly understand what marble quarries are.

A beautiful refuge nestled in the mountains. I recommend booking in advance to secure a spot, even just for lunch. The trail is steep; I recommend appropriate equipment, especially footwear.

An easily reachable peak, at the top there is space to move, but always keep your attention high. The exposure on the slopes is remarkable at the top. The view of Versilia and the Apuan peaks is wonderful

Beautiful mountain landscape and one of the many tunnels here in the mountains where you can cool off.

🏔️ COLUMNED. KOBRA'S DAVID. In the heart of the Apuan Alps, near the small village of Colonnata famous for its lard, an extraordinary work of art is hidden: the mural of David of Kobra. Created by the Brazilian artist Eduardo Kobra, this immense mural portrays Michelangelo's David in a super colorful and modern version, approximately 10 meters high. Despite its grandeur, it remains hidden in the mountains and only becomes visible when you get closer. The Cima di Gioia Quarry, where the mural is located, offers a spectacular view of the mountains, the quarries and the Tyrrhenian Sea. The route is the CAI 195 path, a real mountain trek that starts from the small square of Colonnata. Through Via del Giardino and a path that enters the woods, the path climbs for about 500 meters in altitude. After a walk of about an hour, you arrive at the crest with a breathtaking view, until you emerge in front of the mural.

How ignorant do you have to be to write that that mural is nothing special or that it is criminal and shameful? The only criminals are those who would like to have a work removed which is the only beautiful thing in such a panorama, they should be ashamed.

The quarries are literally the cancer of the Apuan Alps. A metastasizing cancer that has spread everywhere, causing devastation of the territory and pollution. They made the mountains disappear by changing the orographic aspect of the territory and polluted the aquifers when they did not actually extinguish them. Not to mention the damage to flora and fauna. An unquantifiable and irreparable damage. Mountains don't grow back. Promoting tourism to go and see the quarries is only a contribution to devastation and pollution. Furthermore, the scenario that opens up in front of the mural, which in itself is nothing special, is literally apocalyptic. One can only admire how vile man can be and what he is willing to do for economic interests. With all the beauty that there is in the Apuan Alps, going there to see the quarries is like going to a city of art to see the shopping center and support consumerism. Instead of getting rich, we become impoverished, in every sense. You just have to be poor inside.

12月 19, 2023, Monte Sagro

Like many other mountains, Monte SAGRO also has a summit cross. Compared to others, it has no body and is relatively simply made, but still worthy of design. At the intersection of the longitudinal beam and crossbeam there is a square plaque standing over the corner. This cross on the mountain, whose name already contains the word "holy", still bears witness to the intention of its builders to recommend God's protection to the region - and above all to the people living here.

The Tambura pass is located at 1630 meters above sea level right at the foot of Mount Focoletta. A little further on, facing another short but intense climb, you reach two marble quarries: the first is the old one, the second is the new one still in operation.

The ridge to the top of Monte Maggiore from the mouth of Pienza is very "broken", it requires attention and experience.
