Simplicissimus House The Simplicissimus House is a museum dedicated to the reception history of Johann Jakob Christoph von Grimmelshausen. Its primary objective is to foster a dialogue between modernism and history. Therefore, the Simplicissimus House primarily focuses on modern art's exploration of the subject of Johann Jakob Christoph von Grimmelshausen. The exhibits range from Max Klinger and Ernst Barlach to contemporary artists such as Claus Arnold, who lives in Hornburg, and Udo Claaßen, who lives in Itzehoe near Hamburg. The city of Renchen already possesses an extensive collection of such testimonies to the reception history. This collection is to be further expanded. The Simplicissimus House is located directly next to Renchen's town hall and across from the historic restaurant "Zum Bären." In the center of the square stands the bronze statue "The Hunter of Soest," erected by Giacomo Manzù in 1977, vividly depicting an episode from Grimmelshausen's masterpiece, "The Adventures of Simplicissimus." The Simplicissimus House is open to the public, and audio tours are available upon request. The Simplicissimus House is run by the Renchen-based "Grimmelshausen Friends" association. The city and the Grimmelshausen Archive Foundation contribute to the house's maintenance. Visit the Grimmelshausen Friends website at www.simplicissimushaus.de

In front of the town hall, the fountain monument, created by the Italian sculptor Giacomo Manzù (1908-1991) and inaugurated in 1977, commemorates the episode from Grimmelshausen's masterpiece, "The Adventures of Simplicissimus." The fountain was donated by Sentor Dr. Franz Burda, honorary citizen of Renchen.

Unfortunately, it's poorly maintained; some of the information boards are now without trees. Furthermore, the path has been pretty badly "worn out" by the nasty MBers in places.

Good trail with three hairpin bends. I manage two, but not the first.
