Taranto's old town lies on an island between the Mare Piccolo and Mare Grande, connected to the mainland by only two bridges. Many people here still make their living from fishing and the oyster beds of the Mare Piccolo. The sea is present everywhere, even in the paintings of street artists.

Taranto's Parco della Musica, located in the former Baraccamenti Cattolica area on Via Di Palma, is a vibrant hub in the heart of the Borgo Umbertino district. Inaugurated on March 8, 2024, this space has undergone significant urban redevelopment, transforming a previously abandoned area into a vibrant hub dedicated to culture, art, and technological innovation. The park offers a large plaza, ideal for cultural and social events, and houses restored facilities including exhibition spaces, performance areas, and innovation zones. Among the initiatives is the "Calliope – House of Emerging Technologies" project, an innovation hub promoting One Health research, recognizing the interconnection between human, animal, and environmental health.

We found several places where staircases and sidewalks were decorated with ceramic tiles. Very appealing!

There are many ceramics workshops in the immediate vicinity. Despite the similarity in the motifs, the workshops usually have their own unique style. Today—off-season—the neighborhood was very quiet, and some shopkeepers took the time to explain some of the special features to us. It's worth stopping by the shops; you'll probably find something beautiful to take home.
