The Fronfeste was built in 1699 as part of the city fortifications and initially served as a district court prison. Over time, the Fronfeste was also used as an execution site. The last execution took place in 1935. Between 1933 and 1945, the Fronfeste was also used as a Gestapo prison. Numerous victims of the Nazi regime were imprisoned here. Conversion to a hotel: After a general renovation, the Fronfeste was converted into a hotel and is now called "Rast im Knast." In addition to regular hotel rooms, the hotel also offers themed rooms reminiscent of its former use as a prison. Guests can stay in single or double cells or feel like a prison warden in one of the suites. We and our friends stayed in the themed double rooms, which were beautifully furnished. I can recommend the escape room in the hotel to everyone. We had a blast! I won't say any more 🤫😉
