The little country is always worth a trip ;-))

Berg Castle, built on a hill above the town of Nennig, consists of two connected former moated castles. The lower castle is privately owned and is gradually falling into disrepair, while the upper castle, converted into a palace during the Renaissance, houses a hotel, a restaurant, and a casino. The upper castle, incidentally, was almost completely destroyed in World War II, rebuilt by the Saarland in the 1950s, and used as a school camp for about 30 years. Nice flowy downhill going towards a local 'Northshore' location on the other side of the road at the bottom.

If you drive North to South here (drop in from K114). It is a nice sweeping downhill all the way to the water. In summer, water level is low and you can cross no problem. In winter - it's a different story :) 30/01/2025 it was deep and flowy, about 30-40cm depth in places. There is a bridge, if you don't want to cross on a bike. Straight after the crossing, if you keep left, it's a steep climb with rugged terrain. Nice for legs, lungs and balance training :)

Fast single down with a few mellow turns. Be aware of possible hikers, in season visibility out of corners is limited.

Dominant quarry stone building with slate roof. Proud double tower façade. A church probably existed as early as 1037. The new building in 1848/49 was built according to plans by the Mainz architect Rüppel, using the old tower, which was replaced in 1912 by a double tower façade in the west.

An oversized bench is ideal for a break with a view before continuing into the forest. In the distance, the cooling towers of the Cattenom nuclear power plant are steaming on French soil.

A very historic place.
