The OLBA-SEE is about 1200 meters long, about 700 meters wide and about 30 meters deep. The lake is a former lignite mining site where a fire broke out on October 3rd, 1927. Since there was no way to extinguish the fire, the tunnels were flooded to extinguish the fire. This is how the OLBA-SEE came about - the name derives from the OberLausitzer Braunkohlen-Aktiengesellschaft.
