The railway stop in Breese am Seißelberge was first mentioned in August 1869 in an explanatory report on the preparatory work for the Wittenberge-Buchholz branch line. At that time, only one stop was planned—the only one; all other access points were railway stations. When construction of the line was already well underway and the opening to Hitzacker in October 1873 was imminent, the Berlin-Hamburg Railway prepared initial designs for the station. From the outset, the station was intended to accommodate imperial hunting parties. I grew up in Hitzacker and in my time up until 1969, the old town hall was in the old half-timbered building to the left of the ice cream parlor on the market square. The post office was downstairs and the town administration was upstairs. I always had to pay the annual dog tax there. But then in 1973 I moved from Hitzacker to the wide world for work - it's possible that the town administration had to move due to lack of space.
