East of Amelinghausen, the river is dammed by a dam on Federal Highway 209 to form the Lopausee, a tourist destination. The overflow is also located here. North of Amelinghausen, the Lopau flows into the Luhe on the right bank near the Oldendorfer Totenstatt near Oldendorf (Luhe). From source to mouth, the river is 13.8 kilometers long.

The Heiligengeistschule (HGS) is a primary school in Lüneburg's old town and is considered the oldest general education school in Lüneburg. It holds a special status due to its several special education classes focusing on language development. True to its motto, "Hand in Hand – Together – Strong," diversity is seen here as a strength and an opportunity. Before the building was converted into a school, it housed a hospital.
