A magnificent spot high above the Nonnenmattweiher lake with fantastic views of the Belchen mountain and the Münstertal valley. And, of course, a breathtaking view down to the Nonnenmattweiher itself. The ascent from the Kreuzsattel pass leads through the core zone of the protected area and is therefore pristine. The last few meters are an alpine path requiring sure footing, especially in winter.

The view of the Belchen and Feldberg mountains is beautiful, but it's only a small, limited viewpoint. The ascent and descent are sometimes a bit steep, but worthwhile.

From the head of the Kleine Wiesental valley, there are many diverse hiking opportunities. Ideal parking areas are Haldenhof and Kreuzwegsattel. The imposing Belchen summit with its clearly visible Belchenhaus mountain hut is always a dominant feature. Worthwhile destinations include Belchen, Köhlgarten, Sirnitz, Kälbelescheuer, and Nonnenmattweiher lake.

From the parking lot, you have a beautiful view of the Black Forest. It's no wonder that RVs park here on weekends.

At around 325 meters long and 200 meters wide, the Nonnenmattweiher pond isn't particularly large, but it's truly beautiful to look at. So, if you're looking for a wonderfully located swimming lake in the Black Forest, you're in the right place by jumping into this medieval lake near Badenweiler. Here, you can swim in peace and enjoy the Black Forest in all its splendor. After the lake had probably silted up in the Middle Ages, it was subsequently dammed. According to legend, a nunnery is said to have sunk into the lake. However, the lake's name doesn't stem from this legend, but rather from the fact that fattening cows, called nuns, used to grazed the pastures surrounding the lake.
