The gate tower, along with the city wall, was part of the medieval city fortifications. Its passageway, the so-called Schwaikheim Gate, was the main entrance to the old town. The masonry, together with remnants of the city wall, represents the oldest surviving structure. The timber-framed upper floors were rebuilt 15 years after the devastating city fire of 1693. The tower houses the city museum, including the old prison cell. The top floor contains the so-called "Gate Rooms," which Winnenden residents can rent for celebrations.

This monument stands in front of Winnental Castle in Winnenden. A stone-carved pug with a laurel wreath around its neck commemorates the dog of Duke Karl Alexander of Württemberg. He led the imperial army against the Ottoman troops during the Battle of Belgrade in 1717. Legend has it that during the battle, master and dog lost each other, whereupon the pug walked alone on its crooked legs, more than 1,100 kilometers back to Winnental. After his death, the people erected this monument to the well-behaved and always exceedingly friendly dog.
