The Roman Catholic Imperial Cathedral of St. Bartholomew (officially St. Bartholomew's Cathedral in Frankfurt am Main, or simply Frankfurt Cathedral[1]) in Frankfurt am Main, the largest religious building in the city, is the former election and coronation church of the Holy Roman Emperors and, as such, a significant architectural monument of imperial history. It was considered a symbol of national unity, especially in the 19th century. The cathedral was a collegiate church from 852 to 1803, but never a cathedral.

The Römer is the old and still current center of Frankfurt; the successfully reconstructed old town adjoins it.

In the 16th century, it was considered the most beautiful square in the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation, and even today it remains a popular photo subject in Frankfurt – the Römerberg. Its name derives from the house "Zum Römer," which has housed the town hall since the 15th century. The town hall complex comprises several buildings with Gothic stepped gables and houses the famous Imperial Hall with portraits of all 52 emperors of the Holy Roman Empire; from 1612 onward, coronation banquets were held here. The Fountain of Justice in the square is also an important landmark.

In March 1944, Frankfurt am Main's Old Town was destroyed in a bombing raid. Seventy-five years later, a new Old Town quarter has been created: 35 buildings, including 15 faithful reconstructions and 20 new buildings of high architectural and craftsmanship quality, comprise the new district. In some cases, even surviving parts of the original buildings were incorporated. The new Frankfurt Old Town, with its mix of apartments, shops, cafés, restaurants, and museums, is a popular meeting place for residents and visitors alike. The Archaeological Garden, with excavations dating back to the Roman occupation, is also located within this area. In 2019, Frankfurt's Old Town won the international MIPIM Award in Cannes.
