In the middle of Frankfurt, directly on the Römerberg, where once the old town and later the Technical City Hall were, a new quarter, the so-called Dom-Römer-Quartier, was built over a ten-year planning and construction period between 2007 and 2018. In small-scale construction, partly based on historical models, 35 buildings were realized, according to the planners "a diverse neighborhood with apartments, shops and restaurants." The centerpiece is the "coronation path" (the street name is "Markt"), which connects the Romans and the cathedral. The name commemorates the path on which the emperors of the Holy Roman Empire moved to Römerberg after their coronation in the Cathedral of St. Bartholomew.
