The Merzig Animal & Ark Park is home to endangered breeds of farm animals, including Thuringian Forest goats, Hinterwälder cattle, German Karakul, and Meissen rams. South American coatis, alpacas, honey bees, and budgies and cockatiels also live in the enclosures at the Blättelbornweiher pond. The Merzig Animal & Ark Park is open 24 hours a day. Why Halfenhaus "Saarburg"? It's in Merzig.

This nearly 200-year-old ginkgo tree is located in the Mettlach Abbey Arboretum. Its native habitat is China. The ginkgo tree was imported to Central Europe around 1730. The tree is very heat-loving and incredibly hardy. In the fall, it turns golden yellow. It can grow up to 20 meters tall. Its fruits are pseudopods. The seeds are edible. The ginkgo tree's leaf shape is characteristic. The botanical name is Ginkgo biloba.

This tree of heaven is a more than 100-year-old tree native to northern China. This heat-loving tree rarely propagates by seed in our latitudes. The seeds adorn the green foliage in autumn with their yellowish-brown color. The botanical name for the tree of heaven is Ailanthus altissima.

Built in 1647-49 according to plans by Matthias Staudt as a late Renaissance palace for Elector Philipp Christoph von Sötern; restored in the Baroque style by Christian Kretzschmar after a fire in the 18th century. The foyer features 16 terracottas, made by Villeroy & Boch on behalf of Ludwig II for Herrenchiemsee Palace.

Merzig – a town with a milling tradition: In 1832, 10 watermills, 3 oil mills, 2 fulling mills, and a tannery mill were registered here. This wheel worked just a few meters away in a leather factory until the 1960s.
