A real highlight for mountain bikers in the Franconian Forest. Due to the low gradient, the trail can also be ridden uphill without any problems. The time required for the almost 10km total route should not be underestimated because of the sections that are prepared in places by forestry machines and the frequent crossings of the stream over sometimes dilapidated bridges with steps. In between there is the beer fountain for refueling 🍺.

A section of the Rennsteig southeast of Ludwigsstadt is called the Schönwappenweg. The oldest boundary stone on the path is the Kurfürstenstein, a coat of arms stone from 1513. It has stood for almost five hundred years on this border, which today separates Thuringia from Bavaria, but once separated the Bishopric of Bamberg from the Electorate of Saxony. During the GDR era, it separated the inner-German border.

Great trail. Class S1-S2. Partly rooty. Please watch out for hikers. There are also a few harvesters in the area at the moment.
