Basalt columns down to the water. Walking around requires a certain amount of physical agility, the path is very overgrown, you have to climb over tree trunks and crawl under them. But absolutely worth seeing

The Schlitz flows into the Fulda here in the Hutzdorf district at 218 m above sea level. The Schlitz is formed in Bad Salzschlirf by the confluence of the Lauter and the Altefeld at 238.7 m above sea level. At around 12 km long, the Schlitz is one of the shortest rivers in Germany.

Very close to the mouth there is a bench directly on the Fulda cycle path, from which you unfortunately cannot see the mouth because the grass is tall.

From above, you get the impression that you can't walk around the lake close to the shore - but you can! ;) In two places, narrow paths lead to the shore and you can also walk around the lake from below. Be careful, though, as the narrow path is quite overgrown and unsecured, especially in the area of the small peninsula!

The tower is freely accessible at any time and offers a great all-round view of the entire surrounding area.

In 1829 Dr. Joseph Schneider in his "Buchonia": "In 1828 the community of Angersbach started to excavate the ruins of the old castle of Wartenbach, and although they have not done much up to this point, you can still see the walls and some entrances, of which the one in the Basement with several stairs is already open and accessible." Georg Landau reported in 1836 in his book "Hessian Knights' Castles and their Owners": "Only a few remains of walls rise from the rubble, from which one can reasonably guess the location of the buildings. The castle gate lay after that ridge of rock and was there just a few years ago to see the 6 foot high remains of the gate pillars."
