From the dam you have a beautiful view over the Ohratalsperre.

The Ohratalsperre is perfect for hiking 🥾, but above all for 🚴🏼‍♀️ and the turquoise water is simply beautiful 🤩.

The approximately 14 km long circular tour around the Ohratalsperre leads along a paved road through a scenically contrasting and attractive environment.

The Ohratalsperre was built between 1960 and 1966 and today supplies over 400,000 residents with drinking water and generates 400 KW of electricity through hydropower. There is a circular hiking trail around the dam and two foredams. Places worth seeing around the dam are the Kulissenfelsen, the Gerastollen and many great views of the dam. A visit, whether for hiking or cycling, is always worthwhile.

The Langer Grunds pond has crystal clear water.

The dam was built between 1935 and 1938 and served to supply soft water to the Arnstadt, Neudietendorf and Erfurt train stations.

The burnt out stone at Oberhof is an artificial breakthrough through the rock. It was important for the Lütsche Flößgraben when it was built. The alternation of fire and ice-cold water made the stone brittle and could be worked with mining tools. A 38 m long, 2.3 m high and 2.2 m wide tunnel was created. If you follow the path further you come to the “Hohen Stein” with a wonderful view. The path back to Oberhof leads past the upper Sieglitzteich.
