The Poitou donkey is an endangered breed of large donkey named after the Poitou area of western France.

The Steveraue in Olfen, which you have a beautiful view of from the three-arch bridge, Olfen's landmark, is on the SteverLandRoute, the family cycle path in the Münsterland: Here, information boards for adults and information boards especially for children (!) provide information about the great project. There are a total of 14 hands-on stations along the route. If you like, you can use the children's discovery card to travel from station to station, collect coin impressions and become a Stever expert. Have a look at our collection :)

A floodplain is newly created, after everything was straightened decades ago, today it looks largely natural again on the Stever in Olfen.

The Olfener Steveraue with its Heck cattle, storks, Konik horses and Poitou donkeys is simply worth seeing. A raft trip, which can be booked at the tourist office in Olfen, is a special experience.

The Old Ride is a disused section of the Dortmund-Ems Canal. The 8 1/2 km long section extends from the Datteln canal junction to behind Olfen. A beautiful footpath and cycle path leads directly along the water.
