From the Car park, if you stay to the left along the path, you’ll be blessed with stunning views of Beacon Fell and Parlick Fell. As you carry along this path, you’ll see in the distance, the shadow of one of the three peaks, Pen-Y-Ghent. Come here on a clear day and especially at sunset 👌🏼

This oak tree was touched by J.R.R. Tolkien and more importantly, the tree touched J.R.R. Tolkien. Some say it may have inspired the Ents in The Lord of the Rings

I grew up running around here, the front side with the steps is great for training.

The Forest of Bowland National Landscape covers 312 square miles of rural Lancashire and adjacent Yorkshire. From Hurst Green in the south to Wennington in the North, the Forest of Bowland is dotted with charming stone villages, some of which date as far back as pre-historic times. It took me breath away when I saw the views here

Beautiful views of the Ribble Valley and generally good walking conditions underfoot all year round.

The path at the side of the river is the Tolkien Trail, a lovely 11km loop which is generally fine to walk all year round.

Pendle Hill looms over East Lancashire between the towns of Clitheroe and Nelson.  With its distinctive humpback shape, visible for miles around from all directions, it is a local landmark, rising from an area of green beauty.  The district is dotted with tiny hamlets and farms, divided by ancient drystone walls and full of folklore and stories – not least the famous tale of the Pendle Witches.  Geographically, Pendle Hill is part of the Pennine Chain of hills that run north-south through the northern half of England.  It is included in the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, though Pendle is a discrete hill, separated from the main upland area of Bowland by the Ribble Valley.

An outlier from the hills of the main Forest of Bowland area makes Pendle Hill a superb stand along peak. At 532m it's high enough to feel big and offer excellent views north into the hills and in other directions over the more populated areas of Lancashire. Pendle is intertwined with myth and legend from jumping giants to the famous witch trials in the early 17th century. Much loved locally it's a great run from any direction with most routes providing a tough but manageable climb and a brilliant descent.

The viewpoint on Jeffrey Hill is at 262m. Great views north onto the Forest of Bowland and west out over Morecombe Bay. If you ride up to the higher point on the road to the southeast you can also see across to Pendle Hill. The road up to this point from the north is hard work but the climb isn't long. Descending from here is great.

This is a really tough climb from the North. Very steep and long, although you can ry and distract yourself with the amazing view back down into Bowland.

The path up is difficult, makes the journey down all the more enjoyable though

If you look to the North East - that's where I live at the moment, soon that will be South West. Yes our lost sisters who were murdered for their land not their faith choice, the excuse used to murder them! There are many ways to get up the hill, Great Harwood is the back slope and Sabden - be sure to see the Treacle and Jam Buttie Mines. Dress for the wind and rain, as the saying goes "If there's cloud a ont' t'hill it's gonna rain and if there's not just wait a moment and there soon will be".
