The Bruno Peyronel Alpine Botanical Garden is open year-round, being a natural and publicly accessible site. During July and August, a volunteer guide will be available to welcome you and, if you wish, accompany you free of charge along the educational trail within the Garden, to help you discover the wonders of Alpine flora.

I visited it on a rainy day, with poor visibility, but despite everything it turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. It is a spectacle of nature.

Fermo Cuncunà in Occitan means "crouching woman" and, to be called this, it is precisely the set of rocks that form the profile of a crouched female figure. Not only this surprising play of perspectives particularly evident on the road of the Vallone di Elva. Here, you can enjoy an enchanting view of the Bettone, Chersogno, Marchisa, Pelvo and Monviso mountains. While under the rock, if you don't suffer from vertigo, you can admire the overhang on the Vallone di Elva.

The Alpine Botanical Garden "Bruno Peyronel", on Colle Barant (2,290 m), in the upper Pellice Valley, is a nature reserve created in 1991. It hosts over 300 native Alpine species on a surface of 17,000 m², distributed between pastures, scree and wetlands. It is one of the highest botanical gardens in Europe, which can be visited in the months of July and August with or without a botanical guide.

The Alpine botanical garden “Bruno Peyronel” was born in 1991 from a collaboration between the University of Turin, the Piedmont Region, the Province of Turin, the Val Pellice Mountain Community and the Municipality of Bobbio Pellice. It is named after Bruno Peyronel, a botany professor at the University of Turin who was the first to notice the botanical richness of this area. It is located at 2,290 meters above sea level and is the highest spontaneous Alpine botanical garden in Europe. In summer it is possible to visit it accompanied by volunteer guides. The first structure of the Pian del Re refuge hotel was built by the Municipality of Crissolo in 1874 to accommodate mountaineers intent on climbing the Normal route of Monviso. In 1909 it became privately owned and management passed to the Perotti family, a historic dynasty of mountain guides of Monviso. Numerous paths start from here, both for day trips and for multi-day treks, such as the Giro del Monviso, or mountaineering itineraries, including the Normal route of Monviso. The refuge is open every day from the beginning of June to the end of September and offers 30 beds, in addition to a bar and restaurant service. Overlooking rock in the municipality of Elva a few steps from the San Giovanni hill and easily accessible because it is located about ten minutes from the road to Elva. If you want, you can join the excursion to Mount Bettone, clearly visible from the fremo. Being positioned obliquely upwards, there is little sense of dizziness, just don't look too far below
