Are completed, but the way there is beautiful

The "Dragon's Breath" is a large cavity between the rocks protected by a grill from which a light breath of air comes out. It is a bit hidden, it took me a while to find it. Once you reach the viewpoint you have to go down the steep path marked with the sign for the "Dragon's Breath". As soon as you see a blue sign on the rocks stop going down and take this path on the left, and after a few meters you will reach your destination. On windy days you might not hear this hiss of air coming from the cavity

To be precise, it is called the Sanctuary of San Maurizio and Madonna degli Alpini, and is located on top of the promontory overlooking the Cuneo plain. At the base of the steps we find the tombstones of various Alpine soldiers who fell in the war. Further ahead of the Croce degli Alpini, there is a tower that acts as a panoramic balcony

The crystalline massif of Argentera is embraced by sedimentary rocks (limestone and dolomite). In these less compact and more permeable rocks than the crystalline ones of the peaks of the upper valley, the water, infiltrating through cracks and fissures, has dug tunnels and tunnels over the millennia. The most important underground system in the valley is represented by the Grotte del Bandito, which open near the Gesso stream, in the Municipality of Roaschia. Here, remains of Ursus spelaeus, the ancient cave bear, were found. Here, taking advantage of the stable climate of the caves, colonies of Bats winter, whose hibernation must not be disturbed at all, otherwise the bats will die. Here the villagers dug for a long time in search of gold flakes. Species of invertebrates perfectly adapted to the underground environment live here. Due to their naturalistic and palaeontological interest, the Bandito Caves have been a nature reserve since 2011 managed by the Maritime Alps Protected Areas, included in the SCI IT1160056 "Marittime Alps": they are subject to protection and access to the caves is strictly limited to research or visits authorized/conducted by the Park. info:
