A nature reserve located in the municipality of Popoli. The springs' expanse of water offers a marvelous spectacle.

The gorge becomes less bad just after the Hermitage of San Venanzio, the Aterno river flows calmly.

The “Sorgenti del Pescara” guided regional nature reserve, established with Regional Law no. 57 of 31 October 1986, is one of the oldest protected areas in Abruzzo.

This place is a splendid oasis of tranquility, where the cave is located which was the first modest refuge of the hermit Pietro da Morrone, located on the slopes of the homonymous mountain. You can reach the hermitage through stairs carved into the rock. The climb itself is not too demanding given the modest difference in altitude. However, if the climb is still too tiring, you can travel most of the way by car and park a few meters from the hermitage.

Very nice walk, parking in front of the gate ,,15 min walk on the road and then 20 minutes climb with great view at the hermitage. We came on a weekday and the hermitage itself was closed.
