A beautiful memorial was erected in the French hill. It is also impressive that the wall is still so well preserved that you can still see the structure and the division.

Well - one of my photos shows what it looked like here years ago: At first glance only a few stones, but authentic! Today: A brand new ruin! who likes it......

Today we visited the reconstructed castle. The reconstruction probably only affects the old keep, which was built a few meters thick with field stones. We would not have expected the castle itself to be here, but it is worth a short detour. Times must have been quite dangerous here back then, since some old castle ruins such as Cecilieninsel and the other castle ruins next to Cecilieninsel are also there. Incidentally, the way to the farm dog was blocked off, which means that it is no longer possible to get there. Next to the castle there are some ponds where fish was/is bred. If you want to enjoy the view, you can eat in the pond restaurant. But I don't know if this is still open at all, since there was no card on the house.

When I drove by there, a large number of cranes were resting at the castle. A quiet, almost lonely area with many beautiful views

I discovered the place by chance. Since I like castles, I was very satisfied and I took some pictures. Unfortunately, I couldn't spend a lot of time here. But the environment looks very nice.

The castle complex is on the way to the Billequelle and is only a ruin. Unfortunately, the access had been closed for a long time due to extensive restorations and with it the way to the Billequelle - but now the way is currently free again. In the past, apart from the hill and a few stones, there was nothing to be seen of a castle - now attempts have been made to partially reconstruct the castle's round tower with large field stones. I am unable to judge whether this has really worked out well ... it now looks much too bright and new for an old castle - hopefully it will age a little over time. The only public path leads from the castle to the Billequelle. The small bridge there is still closed, but you can walk / push past it. The slab path that leads past the source ends in a dead end and back it leads over a private property, where a farm dog takes good care and "intruders" bark properly. So you have to go back past the old castle.

Linau Castle was a three-part medieval castle. On the middle hill, the main castle, there are remains of a round tower with 3 m thick walls. A castle "Linowe" was first mentioned in 1291. At that time the complex, known as the "robbers' nest", was owned by the aristocratic Scharffenberg family and was destroyed. Possibly it was the "Schlossberg" near Linau-Oberteich. After the rebuilding here at this point (1308) the Scharffenbergs left the castle in 1345, but recaptured it in 1346 and feuded the land again. Through an alliance of the Duke of Lauenburg, the Counts of Holstein and Schauenburg as well as Hamburg and Lübeck, they were finally expelled in 1349 after a three-week siege.

"May makes everything new ..." only not the way to the Bille source. Unfortunately, the path across the farm is still barricaded. The mayor could have left that open. Pity!

I find old castles simply fascinating. As a child I had wished for and even got a knight's castle for Christmas. Ivanhoe was my big hero. Not much can be seen of this old castle, however. If you don't know it, you can drive past it, even though it's right on the street. But if you stand in front of it, you can still guess the history. It is also well signposted so that you can find it. In the municipality of Gudow, seven former weir systems can be traced. To the west of the Kehrsen district is the rest of a so-called tower hill castle or moth after the French "château à motte". The castle hill has a diameter of 18 m and a height of 1.5 m above the water line of the moat. The trench is 7 m wide and is interrupted in the east by a modern earth ramp. A connection to the water supply to the Stichels Bach is questionable. Archaeological excavations in Schleswig-Holstein showed that multi-storey wooden towers stood on castle hills. Basements and towers made of rock or brick are rarely known. A castle includes a wooden bridge over the moat as well as a palisade around the tower or the base of the hill. Surrounding walls are also found in such weir systems. On the basis of finds (e.g. ceramics, metal and wood) and the findings (especially dendrochronological data) moths can be dated to the 13th / 14th century. The castle was put under protection with the entry in the monument book. http://instant-trout-company.de/Bodendenkmale/kehrsen.html

From here you have a beautiful view across the landscaped park to the rear of Wotersen Manor. The landscaped park is not open to the public, so you have to look over the castle wall to see it. Wotersen Manor was owned for almost three centuries by the noble Bernstorff family, who played a significant role in Hanoverian and Danish politics during the 18th century. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gut_Wotersen

Wotersen Manor or Castle? The terms "manor house" and "castle" differ historically less in their inhabitants than in their function. Etymologically, both "castle" and "palace" are rooted in defense. The term "castle" has taken on a broader meaning since the Renaissance. A manor house, on the other hand, is always the center of an estate, such as a knight's estate or—in Schleswig-Holstein—a noble estate. Both are legal terms, as they historically presuppose a legal status, namely the estate owner's membership in the locally organized knighthood, which was represented in the state parliament. In any case, a manor house was the center of an agricultural operation, an estate, or at least a farm with arable land, or a vineyard, forest estate, or fish farm. You can find more detailed information about the different terms here: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schloss_(Architektur)

A beautiful mansion! But the historical outbuildings are also in good condition! Why it is also called "castle" is a mystery to me, because a sovereign never lived / ruled here!

The French hill is the rest of a medieval castle from the 14th century. It is located on a hill 1 km from the old town of Mölln. The clearly recognizable wall is built offset in the northwest and thus forms a gate alley. The surrounding ditch is still up to 3.60 m deep. The military controversy in the 1813 Liberation War is probably the eponym for the French hill. French troops were entrenched in the area around Mölln for a short time to protect themselves from attacks by Hanseatic associations. One of these jumps was in the Grundlose Kolk. It is therefore likely that the medieval castle also served as a defense. Since November 21, 1954 there has been a memorial for the victims of the Second World War designed by Karlheinz Goedtke in the interior of the castle. The boulders bear the names of the main war zones of the Second World War.

The French ski jump is the remainder of a 14th-century medieval castle. It is located on a hill 1 km from the old town of Möllner. The well-recognizable wall is offset in the northwest and thus forms a Torgasse. The surrounding ditch is still up to 3.60 m deep. The names given to the French ski jump are probably the wars in the liberation war of 1813. For a short time, French troops were entrenched in the vicinity of Mölln in order to protect themselves from attacks by Hanseatic units. One of these hills was located in Grundlosen Kolk. It is therefore likely that the medieval castle also served as a defense. Since November 21, 1954, the interior of the castle houses a memorial designed by Karlheinz Goedtke for the victims of World War II. The boulders bear the names of the main battlefields of World War II.
