Observation tower with superb panoramic views

The Black Lake was created by expanding and redesigning the old Branitz village pond. On Fuchsinsel (Fox Island) stands the Swiss-style Swan House. Prince Pückler brought a model of it back from a trip to Salzburg, based on which he had it constructed and erected around 1850. The Fish Balcony was built on the shore of the Black Lake as early as 1849. The cast-iron railing, designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, was added in 1863. If you are looking for a unique view, then the observation tower in the Cottbus district of Merzdorf is just the thing for you. The tower was opened in 2006 and has since offered a great panorama over the Cottbus Baltic Sea - an artificial body of water that is gradually being created from the former Cottbus-Nord opencast mine. You can reach the viewing platform at a height of 34 meters via a total of 173 steps.
