The Herthateich pond is the ideal place to experience Burg's unusual topography (forest and hills in the heart of Dithmarschen). It combines nature (orchard), culture (open-air stage), and history (Bökelnburg Castle) in a very small area. The Herthateich is located in the center of the health resort of Burg. The area is characterized by a strong contrast to the otherwise rather flat marsh landscape of Dithmarschen. Because Burg lies on the geest (a ridge), the area around the pond is hilly and wooded, giving it an almost fairytale-like, sheltered atmosphere.

Here you can swim very well, and watch the ships - a great place for a break.

I still think the bathing area is beautiful, and I don't believe that the ships drain their sewage in the canal where everyone can see it immediately.

There you can take a break and swim and sunbathe.

On paths with little traffic you can enjoy the view and beautiful nature.

The old harbor basin of Burg is now an idyllic pond. Via the Burger Au you could get to Burg by water, where mainly peat was traded. When the Kiel Canal was opened in 1895, it severed the Burger Au, which has flowed into the canal ever since. However, the Burger Hafen remained active via a lock to the canal. But it soon became too small and in 1920 the port was closed.

Three stone tables were found at the Hertha pond, which are boulders completely smoothed by glaciers. One of the stones was stolen in the 1950s. The other two are still at their original place of discovery directly at the Hertha pond, where they were placed in pre-Christian times. Hertha was the goddess of fertility and investigations have shown that this place may have served as a place of things where justice was administered.
