In the center of Faaborg, the bell tower of the town's first church, St. Nicholas' Church, still stands. Today, it is the town's landmark. When the church, built around 1250, was demolished after the Reformation in 1536, the bell tower remained standing. It was built somewhat later than the church and therefore required little maintenance. It also served as a navigational aid for sailors. Today, the bell tower still serves as the bell tower for Faaborg's parish church, Helligåndskirken, which replaced St. Nicholas' Church as the parish church when it was demolished. A visit to the bell tower offers the opportunity to see the amazing structures of the medieval building up close, with vaulted ceilings and large oak structures that raise the tower to a height of 31 meters. Lerbjerg is the fourth highest point on Funen and is located in the Svanninge Mountains nature reserve, which is owned by the Bikuben Foundation.
