A trip to Rammstein Castle in the Kyll Valley is worthwhile. The castle is a lovely place to stop for a bite to eat!

Due to its rarity and uniqueness, the Geyersleih is designated a natural monument. Beautiful views of Ramstein Castle and the meanders of the Kyll River

Anyone interested in castle ruins should take the relatively easy detour from the Kylltal cycle path.

A nice vantage point. Unfortunately, the junction is not signposted. Status 7.2023. The few meters from the Roman path are definitely worth it!

Föhren Castle dates back to the 14th century and was last rebuilt in the Baroque style in 1663. The castle complex includes the tithe barn that has been converted and restored into an event space, the actual main building, in whose large hall the registry office is located, and the outbuilding that has been converted into a holiday apartment. The ruins of Ramstein Castle stand on a 182 meter high red sandstone rock on the edge of the Meulenwald in the lower Kylltal near Kordel in Rhineland-Palatinate and are therefore of the hilltop castle type. Built at the beginning of the 14th century by the Archbishop of Trier, Diether von Nassau, as the successor to a fortified estate, it was from then on an electoral Trier feudal castle, which was awarded to electoral subjects and cathedral deans. During the Palatinate War of Succession, the complex was occupied by French soldiers and blown up in 1689. There was no reconstruction. The successor building to the former courtyard house of the castle is now used as a hotel restaurant.
