St. Mary's Church is the central focal point in the heart of the village and is located directly on the "Thuringian Towns Chain" cycle path. It was portrayed by Lyonel Feininger. The Tröbsdorf war memorial was erected for the victims of the First World War. The memorial consists of a brick obelisk on a pedestal, flanked by cannonballs. The pedestal bears lists of the names of those who fell between 1914 and 1918, which were later supplemented by the names of local residents who died in the Second World War. Prepared since 1916 through studies and etchings, Feininger painted the village church of Tröbsdorf, near Weimar, in 1927. In his early drawings, Feininger deliberately emphasizes the block-like, imposing weight of the church with its mansard roof and tower. Heavy storm clouds gather overhead. Buchenwald Concentration Camp, officially KL Buchenwald, was one of the largest concentration camps on German soil. It operated as a forced labor camp on the Ettersberg hill near Weimar between July 1937 and April 1945. A total of approximately 277,800 people from 50 countries were imprisoned in Buchenwald during this period.[1] The death toll is estimated at around 56,000, including 15,000 Soviet citizens, 7,000 Poles, 6,000 Hungarians, and 3,000 French citizens.[2] As the 3rd US Army approached on April 11, 1945, the prisoners took control of the camp from the retreating SS, arrested 125 of the guards, opened the gates, and raised a white flag.
