A 1.3 km detour from Kalkhorster Straße - opposite Hof Hoher Schönberg - on firm forest paths - no signs or boards, but it's worth it.

The inscription is a quote by William Wordsworth (English Romantic poet 1770-1850) and reads “Step out into the light of things and let nature be your teacher” from his work “The Tables Turned” of 1798.

Let us pause for a moment and remember this terrible event and its victims!

Shortly before the end of the war, on May 3, 1945, the British sank the "Cap Arcona" and the "Thielbek" in the Bay of Lübeck. They suspected German troops were on board – a mistake: 7,500 concentration camp prisoners were on board.
