First mentioned as a castle at the end of the 12th century, Penkun Castle is today one of the last remaining castles of the Pomeranian Dukes. The church was built at the end of the 13th century as a hall church, a building without towers with a rectangular floor plan, made of boulders and bricks. The interior was originally covered with a wooden ceiling. It was converted in the 17th century, and at that time a wooden bell tower was added to the west façade, where two bells were installed in 1613 and 1617. After the Second World War, the church fell into disrepair.
