The lake is located within the 'NSG Poratzer Moränenlandschaft' nature reserve. Swimming and overnight stays are therefore not permitted.

Thirty young German soldiers (paratroopers) died here in 1945, shortly before the end of the war. Senselessly killed by the Russians, who were presumably staying or hiding in this remote forest region because of the nearby highway. As I learned from a local mountain biker, this memorial was rebuilt years ago after the first one (a few meters away) was deliberately destroyed. Even the gravestone was stolen.

Why? If we imagine that both parties are controlled by a single source, the answer might be, "It serves our decimalization." With Kazarian greetings.

And the further you go in, the deeper you sink into the mud. Unfortunately, there's no swimming here.

Swimming is prohibited here due to nature conservation. The lake is home to rare and protected species.

Poratz is a very pretty village with its own atmosphere. Unique in its form, also due to the wonderful landscape all around with the rolling hills and lonely forests. A real highlight of the Uckermark!

A tragic event is mentioned that really makes you think. One should always remember the senselessness of war. It is also very unusual to find such a memorial stone in such extreme isolation.

This natural jewel should be enjoyed quietly and carefully, so don't camp on the bank for hours, for example. Walking or cycling slowly, taking a short break, maybe even going into the water quickly at the recognizable spots (please be quiet), these are the best ways to have a respectable and memorable experience here!
