The Gramzow Monastery ruins are the landmark of the oldest documented settlement in the Uckermark region, first mentioned as "Villa Gramsowe" in 1168. The Premonstratensian monastery was founded in 1178 by Duke Bogislaw I of Pomerania, making it one of the earliest Christian settlements in the region. After the Reformation, the monastery was converted into an electoral office around 1545. From 1687 to 1714, French Huguenots used the church for their religious services. On July 23, 1714, a devastating fire destroyed the entire monastery complex as well as many residential and farm buildings – only the western part of the church survived, including the richly articulated west gable and a unique hexagonal chapel, whose architectural form remains a mystery to this day.

It serves as a local history museum, offering insights into the regional history, culture, and traditions of the Uckermark. The former school building has been repurposed to showcase historical exhibits, documents, and everyday objects from past centuries. The museum is primarily managed by the Uckermark Historical Society of Prenzlau, Gramzow branch, and is a cultural meeting place for locals and visitors alike.

Anna Karbe was born on May 4, 1852, in the manor house in Gramzow/Uckermark and was a Brandenburg songwriter and regional poet. She was the daughter of Hermann Karbe, Royal Prussian councilor and tenant farmer in Gramzow/Uckermark, and his first wife, Mathilde Hengstenberg. Her life was marked by suffering, as she suffered a severe spinal injury in a fall at the age of seven, three of her siblings died young, and her mother died when she was twelve. Anna Karbe was raised in a Prussian, conservative, and Christian environment and taught herself to read, occasionally receiving lessons from pastors or private tutors.

A memorial stone for the Brandenburg song and regional poet Anna Karbe stands in Gramzow on "Anna-Karbe-Platz" at the entrance to Bahnhofstraße. This square is named after her, as are the Anna-Karbe-Schule (Anna Karbe School) and Anna-Karbe-Straße (Anna Karbe Street) in Gramzow. The local primary school focuses on the life and works of Anna Karbe.

Like all glacial erratics in Northern Germany, this stone was also transported by glaciers from Scandinavia hundreds of kilometers to Gramzow during the last Ice Age (Weichselian glaciation) approximately 20,000 to 12,000 years ago. It is therefore a natural witness to Earth's history.
