We initially assumed it was a moat until we read about the city wall.

This is really cute, and a really beautiful round island.

Fortification and technical monument ....

Villa Schraube in Pritzwalk was built in 1891 for the Berlin brewing family Minna and Gustav Schraube, who had entered the brewing business in Pritzwalk. This prestigious villa was built directly on the highway to Meyenburg and served as the residence of the owners of the Gustav Schraube brewery.

The building complex stands on the edge of Pritzwalk's old town and is part of a closed row of mostly two-story residential buildings on the north side of Burgstrasse. The granary was built in 1876 and is listed as a historic monument by the city of Pritzwalk.

The city fortifications, which encircled the entire old town until the 18th century, consisted of ramparts, ditches filled with water and a city wall. The city wall was broken through by three gates, the Kemnitzer, the Perleberger and the Buchholzer Tor. Around 1738, a start was made on demolishing the ramparts from the 14th century. After the great city fire of 1821, the gates and walls were gradually demolished. The material was used for reconstruction. Where the city wall and ramparts used to enclose the old town, some remains of the ramparts in the green belt of Pritzwalker still bear witness to the Middle Ages. A semi-circular fieldstone watchtower survives in the northern wall.
