Lüneburg's Old Town is a historic brick Gothic city with cobbled streets and numerous buildings renowned for their historical significance. Among the main attractions are the imposing Town Hall, the historic Am Sande square, and the Old Crane at the harbor. The district is a popular destination for sightseeing, shopping, and strolling through a picturesque atmosphere, further enhanced by its proximity to the Ilmenau River and the Kalkberg hill, among other sights. The Town Hall is considered one of the most important medieval town halls in Northern Germany. Am Sande is a long, historic square that once served as a trading post and is now the heart of the city. Important shops and shopping streets intersect here. The Old Crane is a landmark of the city and a fully functional, medieval wooden structure. The Stintmarkt is a wonderful market square in the waterfront district, known for its atmosphere and its proximity to the Ilmenau River.
