A wonderful tree in the forest, somewhat hidden. A beautiful specimen.

Here, Daun shows itself at its best. In the center of town, the castle stands out, high on a rock. On the right, you see the viaduct that once carried trains to Wittlich and the Moselle – today, the Maare-Moselle cycle path runs across it.

Quercus robur, germinated around 1700, 22 m tall with a breast height of 3.5 m and a crown diameter of 16 m, why is it standing in a blackthorn bush? Unfortunately, it cannot be properly approached.

The Gemünden Maar is the smallest of the three Daun Maars. These are three particularly well-known crater lakes in the Volcanic Eifel region around the town of Daun in Rhineland-Palatinate. They were formed by volcanic explosions approximately 10,000 years ago. The Daun Maars are located in the Volcanic Eifel Nature Park, which covers an area of 970 square kilometers near the Moselle and Ormont on the Belgian border. Numerous hiking trails introduce you to the landscape with its maars and volcanoes.
