The church was built between 1866 and 1876 as a neo-Gothic hall church. The architect was Eduard Zais from Wiesbaden. It is oriented east-west so that the main facade, the decoratively elaborate tower, would be clearly visible from the spa area. The interior is warm and atmospheric, thanks in particular to the decorative yet understated paintings and the stained-glass windows in the chancel. Of particular note among the furnishings is the valuable high altar from 1880, made of six different types of wood and painted in various colors. Its structure is based on the type of medieval winged altarpieces. The brothers Wilhelm and Otto Mengelberg from Cologne crafted it by hand for 8,000 marks at the time. The Stations of the Cross date from the time of the church's construction, although the frames are of more recent origin. Modern times have added distinctive touches with works by Professor Gernot Rumpf from Neustadt an der Weinstraße. His altar, dating from 1985, is dominated by the ancient symbol of Jesus Christ, the pelican. From its nest flow four streams of water (rivers of paradise!) from which two sheaves of grain and two grapevines grow. The altar slab, made of Lahn marble, rests upon them. It is adorned with numerous animals (various birds, snails, mice, etc.).

Hotel and spa guests in Bad Ems receive the "Kaiser Card," which offers various discounts. Among other things, it includes a free ride on the Kurwaldbahn (spa forest railway).

The bakery is unique. It can compete with any pastry shop.

The spa town of Bad Ems lies on the Lahn River. This river forms the border between the northern Westerwald and the southern Taunus mountains. The modern spa industry of the third millennium is still a defining factor in the town, but much more striking in the townscape are the reminiscences of bygone times, when crowned heads from Europe and even Russia were guests here. Bad Ems is also intertwined with Germany's political history, as the famous "Ems Dispatch" originated here.

Walking across the Lahn Bridge, you can see the imposing brick facade of the former lead and silver works in the distance, a reference to the town's mining history. The building dates back to 1903, the Art Nouveau era, which also influenced the architecture of that time. Behind it is the Bad Ems-West train station.

Between the Kaiser Bridge, which crosses the Lahn River in Bad Ems, and the Catholic St. Martin's Church near the riverbank (interestingly, the town's Protestant church also shares this patronage, which is quite unusual), hikers and walkers encounter a wayside cross at the edge of the sprawling green area. This small sacred monument features the body of the crucified Christ on the side facing the church, making it a crucifix.

Like many other places in Germany, the city fathers of Bad Ems felt the need to erect a memorial to the "Iron Chancellor" Otto von Bismarck around the turn of the century. They built an observation tower on the hills above the Lahn River and named it in his honor.
