This is such a fun little spot to stumble across on your walk. An oyster shack in a forest - who knew. Not only is it unique, but it also offers incredible food, particularly famous for their mango curried prawns - definitely a must-try. The atmosphere is very relaxed, so feel free to wander in with your walking gear and boots. The shack operates between Thursday and Sunday.

Not the prettiest from the outside but walking in took me by surprise, it is the biggest indoor fun/games/ride attraction I have seen. It has a food area where you can buy snacks and drinks. Stour Wood, in Essex, is a serene natural oasis that offers lush greenery, diverse wildlife, and scenic trails alongside the River Stour.

There are guided tours available in the holiday season which you can pick up from Flatford Cottage where there is also a pretty decent cafe and a picnic area. Boats are also available for hire and there are short boat tours that will take you on the beautiful Stour as far as Dedham.

The Flatford Granary stored grain until the 19th century when flour milling became profitable. Owned by Golding Constable, it passed to his son Abram and was eventually sold to William Bentall in 1846.

One of the quintessential rural English scenes. A dead end on road, although there is an off-road route that connects to Manningtree if you don't mind some gravel riding.

Now called “Buddy & Rhino”. Under new management, still a great cafe. Lovely lunch!

An Iron Age hill fort and camp now within Epping Forest. It would have been busier here in around 500BCE when the camp was inhabited. The earth works which are still visible consist of a low bank and ditch encircling about 10 acres (4 hectares), this would have been the edge of the main camp.

A cool little take away or eat at the outside table seafood restaurant by the visitor centre. The food is fresh and tasty, and strangely perfect after a walk around the forest. Open Thurs to Sun.

A bridge spans over the waterway that connects Hooks Marsh and Seventy Acres Lake. The bridge is in an elevated position, providing sensational views across the water.

A hide brings you up close to Hall Marsh Scrape. The marsh is made up of a combination of open water, wooded islands, reed beds and marshy corners, that all provides habitat for a wonderful diversity of wildlife species.
