The 3.8 km long nature trail was created from 1997 to 1998 by students and teachers of the Papstdorf Middle School with funding from the Ministry of Education, the Saxon Switzerland National Park Authority, the Gohrisch Local History Society, and many others. The 448-meter-high Gohrisch is located in the middle of a plateau characterized by other imposing rocky mountains such as the Papststein and the Kleinhennersdorfer Stein. This region is therefore also called the "Realm of Stones." From the rugged plateau of the Gohrisch, there are numerous fantastic panoramic views over Saxon Switzerland.

The Gohrisch Summit Trail is not a single trail, but rather the ascent to the summit of Gohrisch Table Mountain in Saxon Switzerland, often part of a circular hike or as a stop on the Malerweg (Painter's Trail). The climb is short and steep, involves steps and ladders, and offers fantastic views of Saxon Switzerland and the Bohemian mountains. There are various routes to the summit, including more challenging ones like the Falkenschlucht Gorge and easier ascents, for example, starting from the hiking car park between Gohrisch and Papststein.
