The port of Ditzum is special because it still contains many original elements that cannot be found anywhere else, such as the Bültjer shipyard, built in 1929, a special shipyard for wooden ships, which has been expanded and modernized several times since then. The ferry connection to Petkum has existed since the Middle Ages. The current vehicle was built in 1926 as a steam ferry and fitted with a diesel engine in 1953.
