Today there are bridges over the Ems. But it wasn't always like that. Several connected the Rheiderland, which was once cut off from the rest of East Frisia and thus from Germany, with the eastern side of the Ems. But now that there are bridges, the Ditzum ferry is the last remaining ferry between Rheiderland and the economic centers of the east. The only thing that has not been correct for several years, of course, since the demolition of the bridge at Weener and the resulting ferry connection. But this is another story.
Without this ferry connection, Ditzum would possibly lose a considerable amount of visitor flow. After all, translating is not only a great experience with a fantastic view over the Ems to the Dollart, but for a few euros you can drive on both sides of the Ems. So every year Ditzum is visited enthusiastically by 10,000 tourists. Ditzum has only had around 600 inhabitants here in the Rheiderland at the "Endje van de Welt" since it was founded around 800 AD. brought. Nevertheless, it is THE goal of every bike tour left along the Ems towards Dollart and Emden.
