12月 7, 2025, St. Katharinenkirche
St. Catherine's Church in Stapel is an old fieldstone church, the oldest part of which, the chancel, dates back to the 12th century. The nave, apse, and the striking round west tower followed in the early 13th century. Inside, it impresses with its late Renaissance furnishings: These include a carved altar (1609), a pulpit (1615), and a baptismal font made of blue Belgian marble from the 15th century.

12月 7, 2025, St. Katharinenkirche
The white, round west tower of St. Catherine's Church in Stapel is a striking feature. This massive tower dates from the early 13th century and is one of the very rare round towers in the Schleswig region. With walls up to 2.5 meters thick in its lower section, it served not only as a church tower but also as a defensive structure and refuge for the inhabitants of the marshland at that time.

1月 20, 2025, St. Katharinenkirche
The main church in the Stapelholm region dates back to the 12th/13th century. Situated on a ridge of heathland directly on the Eider, it originally served as a fortified church against the Dithmarschers on the other side of the Eider. The Dithmarschers burned the church down in the 15th century, and the Stapelholms rebuilt it afterwards. A cemetery surrounded the church until 1885, and some gravestones were left on the church grounds. Extensive restoration work began in 1954, when the ceiling, choir arch and pulpit were painted and the original design of the altar was uncovered. In 1999/2000, new windows were installed in the church, among other things.

7月 22, 2024, St. Annen Church
St. Annen Church in the municipality of Sankt Annen in the district of Dithmarschen, Schleswig-Holstein, is a historical and cultural gem. The church was originally founded as a chapel in 1491 and later, in 1507, declared an independent church by a papal bull. The church's name is derived from Saint Anne, the mother of Mary. Architecturally, St. Annen Church is a typical North German brick building. Particularly notable is the late 14th century altarpiece, which is one of the oldest of its kind in Northern Germany. This altarpiece, which was originally brightly painted, has been stripped down to the wood, revealing the artistic craftsmanship of the woodcarvers. The church also has a Renaissance pulpit from 1571, decorated with detailed carvings. In the following centuries, more baroque elements were added, including an 18th-century box and a confessional from 1668. The single-manual organ with eight registers was built in 1864 by the well-known organ building workshop Marcussen & Søn. Around the church is the cemetery, where one of the so-called Loki Schmidt beds was created in honor of Loki Schmidt's 90th birthday. A cannon from the Schleswig-Holstein uprising commemorates the historic bombardment of Friedrichstadt in 1850.

7月 22, 2024, Eider Bridge (Friedrichstadt)
The Eider Bridge near Friedrichstadt, completed in 1916, is an impressive steel bridge that connects Friedrichstadt in North Friesland with St. Annen in Dithmarschen. With a length of 245 meters, this arched bridge is one of the oldest and most beautiful bridges over the Eider and has a clearance height of 5.60 meters at medium high water. The bridge was designed by the architect Friedrich Voß, who also constructed the famous canal bridges on the Kiel Canal. The Eider Bridge cost 560,000 Reichsmarks at the time, which would be equivalent to around two million euros today. A special feature of the bridge is its function as a bascule bridge, which can be opened when necessary to allow ships to pass through. This technical sophistication makes it an interesting destination for technology and architecture lovers. In addition to its technical and historical significance, the Eider Bridge is also a popular location for photography and film productions. For example, a scene for the ZDF melodrama “Farewell in the Night” was filmed here.
